MORE than 150 students from Linton Village College and the Granta School took part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for partner schools in South Africa and Mozambique.

Many of the students took part in fancy dress, while others carried full backpacks in preparation for a trekking expedition in Borneo next year.

The total of over 2000 will be used to support a food programme for poorer families at Boepathutse Junior Secondary School in South Africa, and an innovative Olympic school sports partnership with Angoche Secondary School in Mozambique.

Four teachers from Mozambique visited Linton and took part in the walk, getting a taste of the English countryside along the way.

Their visit was part of an inspirational school sports partnership in the build-up to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The project, operated by UK Sport together with the British Council and Youth Sport Trust, aims to bring 300 British schools together with partners in the developing world to transform the lives of young people through sport.

Linton Village College will be holding its annual Open Day on Wednesday (October 7).

The college will be open to visitors throughout the morning and particularly welcomes visits from current parents and parents of children in Year 6 who are considering their secondary school choices.

LVC principal Caroline Derbyshire will give presentations at 9.15 and 11.30am, followed by guided tours of the college led by students. There will be a further presentation at 7.30pm but no evening tour.
