Local history exhibition in Saffron Walden Town Hall a massive success
PUBLISHED: 10:11 14 June 2011
A LOCAL history exhibition held in Saffron Walden Town Hall on Saturday exceeded the wildest expectations of organisers with over 200 people turning up.
Castle Street History Group held the event at the town hall and it proved extremely popular, in terms of numbers and the interest shown.
All the specially-produced books were sold by lunchtime and many photographic prints ordered.
Chairman of Castle Street Residents’ Association Peter Riding said: “There was a buzz of excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day and we were thrilled to introduce people who had once lived in Castle Street to the people who now live in the same houses.
“Zofia Everett from the Essex Record Office Archive Access Point in Saffron Walden Library was on hand all day to advise on how best to go about local history research and Douglas Kent from the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings was also available to discuss renovation of listed buildings.
“And special thanks must go to members of the history group who organised the exhibition and served drinks and cakes all day.”
