Traffic in Newport ground to a halt last night after a lorry crashed into the rail bridge.
Police were called to Cambridge Road to assist following the bridge strike by a lorry, thought to be cutting through the village as a detour as there were long delays on the M11 southbound.
Earlier yesterday, one lane of the motorway was closed between Great Chesterford and Stansted due to a five-vehicle crash and subsequent oil spillage.
The lane closure saw traffic go as far back as junction 11 at Cambridge, for Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and the A11 was also backed up.
More to follow.
