A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Saffron Walden last week.

Police were called around 12.30am on July 2 to reports that a white Volkswagen Polo had left the road and collided with a tree, in Chestnut Avenue.

A passenger, a 33-year-old man from Saffron Walden, was treated at the scene but died.

Two other people were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 34-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
