Man charged after fatal crash in Saffron Walden

A man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a fatal collision in Saffron Walden last year.

A white Volkswagen Polo left the road in Chestnut Avenue and collided with a tree at around 12.30am on July 2, 2017.

A passenger in the vehicle, 33 year-old Clinton Smith, was treated by paramedics but died.

Andrew Dodds, 35, of Manor Park North, Knutsford, Cheshire was arrested shortly after the collision.

He had been summonsed to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court where he was today charged with causing death by careless driving.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 13.
