Man charged with firearms offences due in court

A MAN from Ashdon is facing magistrates in Harlow today (Tuesday) after being charged with two firearms-related offences.

Retired Earnest Duncan, 64, was arrested at his home address in Guildhall Way, Ashdon, following an incident outside The Axe pub in Ashdon Road, Saffron Walden on Sunday night.

At about 9pm on Sunday, police were called after a man was seen standing outside the pub brandishing a handgun.

Duncan is facing one charge of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and one charge of being in possession of a firearm and suitable ammunition in a public place.

Due to the severity of the offences it is likely that Duncan will be committed to Crown Court.
