A 46-YEAR-OLD Dutch man has been charged with attempting to smuggle heroin into the UK through Stansted Airport.
UK Border Agency officers arrested Raymond Bellinga after he arrived on a flight from Turkey on Saturday August 7. He is suspected of having swallowed packages containing around 500g of the drug, with an estimated street value of around �25,000.
Mr Bellinga has been charged with attempting to import a Class A drug into the country and is due to appear in court Uxbridge Magistrates Court today (Monday August 9).
Assistant Director for the UK Border Agency at Stansted, Sarah Wolstenholme, said: “UK Border Agency officers are determined to stop Class A drugs reaching our streets. We would urge anyone with information about drug smuggling to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
