A MAN will appear in court today (Thursday) charged with making a bomb hoax on a plane that had to be diverted to Stansted Airport.

Alan Patey, 49, of no fixed address, was charged yesterday and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court following the incident last Friday (September 20).

A 57-year-old man remains on police bail until tomorrow.

The men were arrested after a plane was forced to make an emergency landing at the Uttlesford transport hub.

The Sri Lankan Airlines A330 Airbus, which was carrying 267 passengers and crew, was due to land at Heathrow Airport after its journey from Columbo, but was diverted to Stansted Airport just after 7.30pm.
