A MAN suffered serious head injuries after being trapped underneath a car on Sunday lunchtime.

Two men were working on the vehicle on a driveway in Shepherds Way, Saffron Walden, at around 12.30pm when the trolley jack they had used to lift the car off the ground gave way. It left the man underneath the car, who was in his 20’s, trapped by his head.

He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment.

Four paramedics in two response cars were called to the scene along with an air ambulance, which landed in the grounds of Dame Bradbury’s School on Ashdon Road.

Two fire crews from Saffron Walden were also called and Essex Police accident investigators attended the scene to carry out further investigations.

Station officer Paul Curtis, incident commander, said: “Two young lads were working on their cars and it appears the jack somehow gave way and the vehicle came down on one of them, trapping him and causing head injuries.”
