The winners of this year’s Christmas shop windows competition were announced by the mayor of Saffron Walden, Councillor Paul Fairhurst, on Sunday.

The overall winner was Master & Miss in Central Arcade, with second place going to Café Cou Cou, in George Street, and third place going to Chaps Barbers, in Central Arcade.

Highly commended certificates were awarded to Connie’s Pantry, St Elizabeth’s and Steamer Trading.

Wendy Easter, the owner of Master & Miss, said: “We started seven months ago as a family business providing affordable Spanish children’s designer wares. As we are a little hidden in Central Arcade this prize will mean a lot to us.”

Jacqui Portway, one of the organisers, said: “The Saffron Walden Initiative was delighted with the response to its first Christmas shop windows competition. There were 42 entries and we hope that next year there will be an even bigger response.”
