MORE than £600 has been raised for the Mayor's Appeal after a street collection in Saffron Walden on Saturday.

The money will go towards the Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project (SWYOP) - the chosen charity by the mayor Mike Hibbs for his year of office.

"I'm delighted and grateful that people gave so generously," said Cllr Hibbs. "The charity's latest project, the Goldie Youth Group, will be the main beneficiary, along with the Open Door counselling service for young people which the charity also supports."

The SWYOP was set up in 1994 during Cllr Hibbs' first term as mayor of Saffron Walden. For several years the charity ran the drop-in centre for young people in the High Street. It has also funded youth outreach work in the town.

If you missed the collection and would like to contribute to the charity please contact Cllr Hibbs care of the Saffron Walden Town Council's offices at 11 Emson Close, Saffron Walden, CB10 1HL.
