MILITARY wives at Carver Barracks have formed a choir in an effort to bring the community together.

A first practice session was held last week and plans are in place for the group to give a performance in the summer at the Wimbish base.

Military Padre Robin Richardson said the idea to form a choir was mooted by some of the wives last year.

“They discussed issues that could bring the community together and act as a time for the wives to meet and enjoy some singing as seen by the famous Military Wives Choir,” he said.

“It has given them an opportunity to meet, to get to know each other better and for those that are new to the barracks to get to know other wives and acquaint themselves.”

Padre Richardson was pleased with the turn out of the first session. He said: “It shows that there is enthusiasm and talent here. There was a lot of bonding which is really good.”

Saffron Walden music teacher and choir co-ordinator Lynne Ward-Booth was equally happy with the enthusiasm and singing by those who attended the practice.

“I am quite surprised with their voices and their singing ability and am very excited to work with them,” she said.

Choir practice will continue to run at the barracks every Wednesday afternoon.
