Firefighters were called to the M11 yesterday evening (Thursday, November 21) after a mobile MRI scanner unit caught fire on the southbound carriageway.
The incident, shortly before 9.10pm, happened between junctions 9 (for Saffron Walden) and 8 (for Bishop’s Stortford).
Initially crews were called to a lorry trailer alight, but on arrival they discovered the fire involved a mobile MRI scanner unit.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the blaze. At 9.30pm, they reported that operations were being hindered by two oxygen cylinders involved in the fire.
The incident was dealt with by 10.35pm.
