More than £600 was raised for a mental health charity at the weekend after a Silent Disco event was held in Saffron Walden.

The disco took place at Fairycroft House on Saturday (February 4) and was organised by Ruby Aronsohn, a student at Hills Road Sixth Form College, in aid of the charity Mind in Cambridge.

Ruby, who lives in Saffron Walden, organised the event as part of her Extended Project Qualification and many people danced to the sound of their own tune for the evening.

Ruby said: “We need to raise awareness of mental health issues among those in our age group to help reduce the stigma of it.

“I want to encourage our generation to feel comfortable enough to talk openly about struggles they may face in mental health.

“Tim Atkinson [of Fairycroft House] kindly transformed the ground floor of the building into a magical disco venue where everyone could get together and have a wonderful evening.”
