Easter was a colourful affair in Thaxted as Morris Men brought dancing to the village, while the scouts’ annual craft fair also took place.
The scouts had no barbecue this year because no adult could be found to supervise the youngsters cooking the food.
Scout skills instructor Mick Mullis said: “The person we thought would do it was away on a course and there was no one to take their place.”
In the school holidays, parents take their children away or go to see grandma, and who can blame them. So the scout’s annual fundraiser at the village event was down to a bookstall and raffle and a collection box, raising £175, which Mr Mullis said was not bad considering their reduced presence. “If we had been selling our hotdogs, we would have made more,” he added.
“There was steady business for the stalls a lot of visitors were tourists who had come to Thaxted for the fair and the Morris dancing. It was as good as most other years.”
