A mother and child have taken up residence in Dorset House Garden.

Renowned artist Tessa Hawkes was joined in the Saffron Walden garden by mayor Councillor Heather Asker to unveil the sculpture, which represents the bond of love between a parent and child.

A spokesman for the town council said: “The town council would like to thank, and is very grateful to, Tessa for her work and generosity in loaning this piece of art. Thanks also go to John Ready of the Saffron Walden Initiative for his research and practical help in the logistics of fixing the sculpture in place and to Saffron Walden Town Team for their enthusiasm and support of this project.”

Cllr Asker added: “We are exceedingly lucky to have talented artists within our area. Tessa Hawkes’s work of Mother and Child is a beautiful and serene piece that sits perfectly within the shadow of St Mary’s Church.

“It’s an ideal follow on from The Family who so many will have enjoyed seeing. I’m sure the town will join me in thanking Tessa for the loan of her art and we look forward to welcoming others to contribute in the future to the art interest in beautiful locations.”
