POLICE in Essex are disappointed that many motorists are flouting the tightened laws of using a mobile phone while driving.

Adam Pipe, Senior Traffic Management Officer, said: "It's disappointing because there are a lot of people who have just not heeded the message and are still putting themselves and others at risk by using their phone to speak or text while also trying to concentrate on driving."

Legislation introduced last month means motorists caught using their mobile phones while driving now face three penalty points on their licences, as well as a £60 fine.

Since the stricter legislation was introduced, 432 drivers have been caught and penalised in Essex.
