SIR ALAN Haselhurst has been adopted as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Saffron Walden by the Conservative party.

The MP, who has represented the constituency since 1977, said he is looking forward to continuing serving the area. "I am honoured and delighted to have been adopted as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Saffron Walden," he said.

"I remain as enthusiastic and dedicated as ever to serve the area and act as its champion at Westminster."

Howard Rolfe, chairman of the Saffron Walden Conservative Association, proposed Sir Alan.

"He is an excellent constituency MP, who is hardworking, diligent and effective," he said. "Sir Alan is highly respected at Westminster and his contacts are invaluable.

"I look forward to another authoritative success at the next General Election."

Sir Alan has been deputy speaker in the House of Commons since 1997.
