FOLLOWING the success of a Saffron Walden-based charity in last year's National Lottery Awards, more projects in the area are being encouraged to enter the 2010 competition.

Nominations are now being accepted for Lottery-funded projects to be entered into The National Lottery Awards 2010.

And with more than £9.5 million of Lottery funding being given to projects across Essex in the last year, there are plenty to chose from.

Saffron Walden-based charity Fledglings, which supports the families of children with any disability or special need, was a finalist in last year's competition.

Founder and Director of Fledglings, Ruth Lingard, said: "Taking part in The National Lottery Awards last year was a great experience. It helped us to raise our profile, on both a local and national level, and gave us a platform to thank everyone who is involved in making Fledglings a success. It also enabled us to reach even more disabled children and their families."

National Lottery Awards ambassador and former Coronation Street actress, Sally Lindsay, said: "Lottery players raise £25 million every week for projects both large and small, which are benefiting people and communities all across the UK. The National Lottery Awards recognise the dedication of the people behind these amazing projects who are making a difference.

"If a Lottery-funded project has had a positive impact on your local area, made a real difference to your life or if you are personally involved with a project that is transforming your community with the help of Lottery funding, then now is your chance to nominate."

The entrants that make it to the finals of The National Lottery Awards will appear on a BBC1 show later this year. They will also have a chance to win a £2000 prize.

So if you want to see a winner from Saffron Walden, visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk to find out more. Nominations can be made from 9am on Monday January 11 by calling 020 7324 4366 or visiting the website. Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday February 12.
