MEMBERS of the Royston and Saffron Walden National Trust Association recently enjoyed a day trip to two very different historical properties.
They first visited Chartwell, the home of Sir Winston Churchill, where members could appreciate his home and scenic gardens, as well as the gallery full of his paintings.
They then visited a 14th century moated manor house, Ightham Mote, with its grade I listed dog kennel. Stunning gardens allowed members to take picturesque lakeside and woodland walks in the Kentish valley.
Organiser, Stephen Marshall, said: "This enjoyable day gave members a contrasting insight into the history of our country, looking at more recent history at Chartwell and a personality of great stature, in more ways than one, and Ightham Mote that has been part of our history for some seven hundred years."
