A NEARLY new sale, inspired by a brave three-year-old boy, has raised a staggering amount of money for a specialist children’s cancer ward.

Arranged by the family of Max Rowlandson, who is six months into a three year treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, the sale, called Max’s Sale, managed to raise over 9300 for the C2 Ward at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Max’s mum Jodie Rowlandson described the sale, held at the Great Chesterford Community Centre on Saturday, as “phenomenal”.

“It went better than I could have imagined,” she said. “We had lots of people come along and we also raised lots of money for Addenbrooke’s.

“I’ve had people come up to me and apologise for not being able to make it for the sale but want to make a donation.”

The sale featured a silent auction for prizes such as Wembley tickets, raffles for gift vouchers donated by various shops around the town as well as the sale of nearly new children’s clothes and toys.

All the cash raised is going to the ward. Jodie was due to meet doctors at Addenbrooke’s yesterday to see if there is any equipment that the hospital needs.

She has her own idea of how the cash can be spent

“Some of the children who go to Addenbrooke’s have to stay for a very long period of time,” she said.

“The family room is not very nice considering some families have to spend a lot of time in there. We though it we could do it over and kit it out with all new equipment.”
