A NEW manager has been appointed to run Saffron Walden’s world-class performance venue.

Jenny Goodwin will manage the day to day running of the multi-million pound auditorium, currently under construction at the County High School, and organise a programme of concerts and events.

The 800-seat capacity, state-of-the-art performance space – yet to be named – is expected to open in autumn 2013.

Miss Goodwin, who lives in Hinxton, described the auditorium as an “extraordinary facility” for the school, the town, residents and local arts organisations, saying it will boast “excellent acoustics” and create an “enjoyable atmosphere”.

“I feel privileged to have been charged with the development of this world-class venue,” said Miss Goodwin. “It will be an extraordinary opportunity for the town to boost its musical and cultural reputation.

“I have very high ambitions and plan to build an extensive programme of events.”

Headteacher John Hartley said: “As the physical structure begins to take shape at the school, we are delighted to welcome Jenny on board.

“We look forward to working with her as the plans for the auditorium’s use are also shaped and refined in the months to come.”

David Barrs, chairman of local charity The Yellow Car Charitable Trust, which has been instrumental in helping deliver the project, added: “Jenny’s arrival will help to ensure that the vision we share with the County High is realised.

“This new auditorium will be the perfect manifestation of the Trust’s objective to make a difference in and for Saffron Walden.”

Miss Goodwin will bring a wealth of expertise to the role, having joined last month from the Music Publishers Association where she was assistant chief executive for 10 years.

Prior to that, and following a degree in music, she spent a number of years working at Trinity College of Music before turning freelance.

She has worked for a range of music organisations in a variety of roles, including the National Music Council, NMC Recordings Ltd and the Composers Ensemble.
