STAFF, patients and partner organisations came together to celebrate the opening of Saffron Walden's new mental health unit.

The Skylark Centre is based on the outskirts of Saffron Walden at the Community Hospital on Radwinter Road.

And the chairman and chief executive of the North Essex Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust hosted a small informal ceremony to officially open the facility last Thursday.

The staff at the Skylark centre will provide a wide range of therapeutic support activities such as creative arts, gardening and relaxation.

Team leader Stephanie Rea said: "We have moved from small

offices at Fairycroft

Road and we are all extremely pleased. We now have more space for group and individual therapy sessions."

Chief Executive Dr Richard Coleman added: "I am delighted to open this new and more spacious unit.

"The community mental health team provides an invaluable service and the new centre gives the team more space.

"It will also be used by other organisations such as MIND and this means people can access a wide range of assistance and help in one place.
