New robotics club launched at college
STUDENTS at Linton Village College (LVC) have launched a robotics club with the support of international technology company ARM.
The club meets on Thursday lunchtimes and students are currently learning how to program robots to race around a track.
ARM, based in Cambridge, has recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. After starting out with a handful of engineers, it has grown to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of semiconductor intellectual property. Almost every mobile phone in the world contains microchips based on ARM designs.
For the club sessions, ARM provides track, robots and staff to work alongside LVC students as part of its commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education.
Robotics club co-ordinator Steve Groom said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with a successful local business to develop their IT and technology skills and their understanding of the digital world.”
