TESCO marked the opening of its new Saffron Walden store this week by donating a combined total of £1,500 to three different charities.

Support 4 Sight, Diabetes UK and Saffron Walden Opportunity Playgroup all benefited from the opening of the Tesco Express, at the former site of The Crocus pub, on Pleasant Valley. Each charity received £500 following the store’s opening on Tuesday (April 16).

Iris Evans, chair of trustees for Support 4 Sight, said: “We are grateful for this cheque and the support of Tesco. It helps us to support people who are often very vulnerable by providing them with equipment and reduce their isolation.”

Jane Cloughton, regional support officer for Diabetes UK, thanked Tesco, adding: “Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes.”

A representative for SWOP was unable to attend the ceremony.
