Saffron Walden Mencap Society is on the verge of closing if more volunteers don’t come forward.
The charity caters for people throughout Uttlesford with a learning disability and their carers. It was formed in the 60s and has helped numerous people either getting into independent living or having a good time in a secure environment at one of the regular discos.
But chairman Roger Smith said: “I am sad to report our little band of active volunteers is diminished due to various reasons and nobody has come forward to chair the group when I move on this year.
“We are having an Extraordinary General Meeting on March 18 at 7.30pm in the Day Centre, George Street, to decide whether we are
able to carry on.
“If you can help or just want to see the group continue please come along and support us.”
