A MEDIA consultant with a sense of adventure is set to undertake his latest charity escapade.

Jeremy Reed, who was featured exclusively in the Reporter last year following a 10-month round-the-world yacht race, is taking on a 2,200-mile cycle ride.

He will leave his home in Newport on April 25, ride to John O’Groats, then on to Land’s End, and finally complete the circle back to Newport.

He said: “It should take me about 40 days, as I am aiming to cycle 60 miles per day with the odd rest day.”

Mr Reed will be raising funds for Epilepsy Research UK in memory of Sophie Hannon, a former Newport Primary and Saffron Walden County High School pupil, who died of an epilepsy-related accident last July, aged 23.

A memorial fund was subsequently set up by her family.

“Sophie had close links with Newport and I am delighted to be supporting a charity in her memory,” said Mr Reed who learned of the memorial fund through a mutual friend.

Sophie’s mother, Annette Heden, said: “I am delighted that Jeremy has decided to raise funds for Epilepsy Research in memory of Sophie.

“Sophie was a bright, vivacious, kind and fun loving girl with great compassion for her fellow human beings. She was also an organ donor, and it is a great comfort for her family to know that her ultimate gift of life has helped save the lives of four people,” she said.

Further information on the Sophie Hannon Memorial Fund can be found at epilepsyresearch.org.uk/support_us/memorial_hannon.htm and on Facebook – Sophie Hannon Memorial Fund/Facebook/Community.

All money raised from Mr Reed’s sponsored bike ride will go to help vital research into finding a cure and providing better control of this debilitating condition.

Donations can be made at justgiving.com/jeremyreed or by cheque payable to Epilepsy Research UK and posted to Jeremy Reed c/o The Reporter, 54 High Street, Saffron Walden, Essex CB10 1EE.
