Nothing signals the end of winter like the first daffodils poking their heads through the last of the flooded meadows. Few plants are as easy to grow, or as rewarding, as the early blooming bulbs that Newport Business Association planted over two years ago.

The only challenge remaining is to maintain and expand the Lavender Line project at Newport railway station.

Jeremy Rose, chairman of the NBA, said: “Last year we planted and tended over 750 English Lavender plants. With the help of NBA members, we maintain and plant out flowers, herbs and seasonal flower pots along the station platform.

“It’s hard to imagine just how bleak the railway station can look in late winter. Come the spring we’re glad we did make the effort!

“Thank you for all the £5 donations to buy more English Lavender plant.”

If you’d like to make a donation, please send cash or cheques to Tricia Rose, Newport Business Association, The Office, Brown House, The High Street, Newport, Essex CB11 3QY.
