There were wild times at Newport Primary School’s annual fete on Friday (July 1).
A travelling zoo called Animal Workshops entertained the youngsters with meerkats, skunks, tortortoises, lizards, deadly spiders and frogs.
Even the bouncy castle had a safari theme with a cargo net and slide and there was an assault course, run by David Mennel who runs wilderness survival courses at Wendens Ambo, providing a fun challenge.
Taking the animal theme back in time, the event showcased an 8ft-tall mechanical dinosaur worked from inside by Rob Turner from R Turner Cycles.
Among the performers providing the entertainment were dancers from Tiny Tempos and Footlights.
Judy Emanuel, chairman of the Friends of Newport Primary School, which runs the yearly event, said: “The day went really well. The children loved the zoo and the assault course. We had meerkats, rabbits and an albino hedgehog.
“We are raising money to rebuild our outdoor classroom. We don’t know yet how much we have raised with the fete, our target is £5,000 for the year and we have raised £3,000 so far.”
