Hundreds of pounds raised by shoppers at the Guildhall Stores in Thaxted will go back into helping the community – and keeping them warm.
Every year store owners Ashok and Devi Khunti fundraise annually for different causes. This time the record six hundred pounds raised over the last year will be split between Thaxted Church and the local Cancer Research branch.
Two lucky donors also won a drinks and food hamper courtesy of the Khuntis.
Father Chris Brown of Thaxted Church, said:
“This is a tremendous community effort over a sustained period by Ashok and Devi. We have just put in new heating into the church which enables us to have a number of community groups meet here.
“For the first time in its 600 year history the church is warm throughout.
“Now we just have to pay for it – this money is very, very gratefully received and appreciated.”
Devi Khunti added: “We like to help the community where we can. “We would like to thank all the people who supported the charities and helped with the fundraising.”
