Road users will soon benefit from smoother journeys in Essex when work to resurface the M11 near Harlow begins next month.

Overnight work to restore the carriageway, repaint white lines and replace road studs is due to start at 10pm on Monday, November 11 and complete by 5am on Friday, November 22, weather permitting. There will be separate closures of the southbound then northbound carriageways while work takes place.

Martin Oliver, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “The M11 is an important road in Essex, both for commuters travelling to and from London, people using Stansted airport as well as locally. This work will improve journeys for road users.

“Work has been planned to take place overnight between 10pm and 5am, avoiding the busier peak periods and minimising disruption. No work will take place on Saturday nights.

“Drivers who might be affected by this work are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time to travel.”

Work to restore the southbound carriageway will begin at 10pm on Monday 11 November for five nights and is due to be completed by 5am on Saturday, November 16. While closures are in place, road users will exit the M11 at junction 8 Birchanger and follow the A120, A1184 and A414 to rejoin the M11 at Junction 7 and continue their journey.

The northbound carriageway work is due to begin at 10pm on Sunday 18 November for five nights, completing by 5am on Friday, November 22. Road users will be diverted to leave the M11 at Junction 7 Harlow and follow the A414, A1184 and A120 to rejoin the M11 at junction 8, Birchanger to continue their journey.
