The nursery has re-homed two Kune Kune piglets from Woodgreen Animal Shelters, now in a petting area in the large nursery garden.

Both female piglets, named Penelope and Peppa by the youngsters, were born early morning on September 14 and went to the nursery at six-weeks-old, where they have settled in.

The nursery’s general manager, Molly Rogers, said: “We recognise the importance of giving children the opportunity to care and take responsibility for animals, especially for those families who may not have this opportunity at home. We are proud to provide a happy future for the animals.”

Penelope is a pink nosed pig and Peppa is all black. The three-year-olds in the preschool class had plenty to say about how much they like them, including: “I love them”, “They eat carrots and I do too” and “They are soft and make noises”.
