Person dies after being hit by train near Sawbridgeworth

A person has died after being hit by a train near Sawbridgeworth, British Transport Police have confirmed.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene, where officers and the ambulance service attended.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Shortly after 10.15am this morning, British Transport Police were called to the track close to Sawbridgeworth following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

Officers attended the location, alongside colleagues from the ambulance service, however a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and steps are underway to inform their family. A file will now be prepared for the coroner.”

Services which ran through Bishop’s Stortford were blocked following the incident, resulting in siginifcant journey disruption this morning.

The lines via Bishop’s Stortford have been reopened this afternoon, Greater Anglia confirmed on Twitter
