Children at Duxford Community Church of England School got the chance to ‘paint’ a historic spitfire to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The Reception classes visited the Old Flying Machine Company, based at IWM Duxford, yesterday (June 5) to see its Subermarine Spitfire, which flew during D-Day operations.

The historic plane has been painted with commemorative invasion stripes to mark the anniversary. As part of their visit to the museum, the children enjoyed hand-printing and signing their names on the spitfire, on removable roundels which they were then able to take back to school to enjoy as a souvenir of their memorable day out.
