Picture gallery: Runners go the distance for St Clare Hospice

Clear blue skies and sunshine made for ideal racing conditions as the entrants set off from the Hastingwood-based Hospice.

The first wheelchair racer to cross the finish line was Paralympic World Cup gold medallist Richard Chiassaro in a time of 27min 40sec. In all, there were four wheelchair racers plus a visually impaired runner and his guide.

The first man back was Andrew Mynott (33min 46sec), a member of Saffron Striders running club, who was swiftly followed by Darren Trelawny (35min 15sec) and Patrick Davoren (35min 22sec).

Liz Davies took first place in the ladies section with a personal best of 37min 1sec. Second place went to Megan Evans (38min 47sec), with Clare Thurgood in third (38min 52sec). Donald Campbell, from Harlow Athletic Club, was the male junior winner with a time of 42min 18sec.

The top female team was Bishop’s Stortford Running Club, while Grange Farm and Dunmow Runners took the men’s team prize. There were 64 prize winners in all.

St Clare events fundraiser Rebecca Barnett said: “It was an absolutely fantastic day and we would like to say a huge congratulations to all our runners and everyone who supported the event to make our 20th anniversary race such a success.

“It was lovely to see so many spectators turn out to support the runners and cheer them along the route and across the finish line.”
