Leading the parade was Malcolm Cincius, the assistant district commissioner for Group Support in the Scout district, who had been to do so in honour of the outstanding work he has done for the district.

The rest of the parade consisted of a band from Sawston Boys Brigade, Beaver colonies, Cub packs, Scout troops, the District Explorer Unit, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and the Guide senior section and all their leaders from all areas of the Scout and Guide districts.

A salute was taken by district commissioner of Saffron Walden Scout District, Andy Player, and town mayor David Watson on the High Street, before the parade continued on to St Mary’s Church. There, Rev David Tomlinson – who is also the scout district chaplin – took a service during which all youngsters and adults renewed their promise.

Mr Player also presented awards to Nigel Bailey, Julie Pledger, Rob Turner, Gordon Benson, Nicola Elven and Paul Cummings for completion of the training programme for leaders, known as a Woodbadge, as well as a 20-year service award to Rob Newman.
