Crime fighting duo Batman & Robin, Top Gun hotshots Maverick & Goose and even Willy Wonka could be seen whizzing round Duxford as part of the village’s annual Soap Box Derby.

Hundreds of people turned out for Sunday’s charity event, held in aid of Cancer Research UK, where hand-made carts raced from the John Barleycorn pub during a weekend-long celebration.

The children’s race got under way at 12noon and was followed by the adults’ an hour later.

The weekend began on Friday night with Bazzas Vinyl Disco Mania at the Wheatsheaf, while there was Morris Dancing at all three pubs in the village on the Saturday and live music that evening.

Sunday afternoon, following the Soap Box Derby, saw presentations for the winners, losers and best fancy dress at The Plough, followed by more live music with classical guitar duo, Dom Bonito and his Buskers and The Lost Marbles.
