The thrills and spills of the ‘8 day weekend’ are over for another three years. But it’s not all doom and gloom as we’ve packed in photos from the final five events of Saffron Walden Carnival.

From corporate night to the club night, the family fun day and Saffron Walden’s Got Talent, there was plenty of entertainment being put on by Saffron Walden Round Table.

Fifteen-year-old singer and guitarist Dave Vant was chosen as the winner of the talent search contest on Friday night, held in the town hall, which featured acts from dance troupes to gymnasts, bands and musicians.

Kate Plummer, from the School of Dance, was runner-up and Katie Johnson took third place.

Nadine Michaelides, chairman of Saffron Walden Ladies Circle, which helped to organise the night, said: “Saffron Walden really does have some exceptional talent and I look forward to seeing more of it in the future.”

The carnival was rounded off in style with the Final Party Night, thanks to 80s star Nik Kershaw and the voice of M People, Heather Small.

Carnival chairman Jason Thomson told the Reporter: “I want to thank the whole community, from everyone involved in the organising, the helpers and volunteers and, obviously, the people who turned up to support the events. Without that, the carnival wouldn’t happen.

“We have all been humbled by the response from the public and the number of people who volunteered to help us.

“It has been an event put on by the community for the community and that says everything about that this town is about.

“We are so lucky we live in a place where ordinary people are able to do extraordinary things.”
