GENEROUS villagers grouped together to raise more than £1800 towards the cost of new play equipment for an adventure playground in Clavering.

When the previous slide was condemned, Friends of Clavering Adventure Playground set about raising around £8000 to replace it.

Andy Tomlinson, whose daughter Olivia and son Harry use the playground, was one of the project's biggest supporters.

He said: "The new slide tower at the playground adds an exciting new dimension to the existing equipment and one which I'm sure future generations of children will enjoy enormously."

A grant of £5500 from the Essex Environment Trust made up most of the funding, with an additional £530 from Clavering Parish Council.

However, residents contributed a total of more than £1,800 in door-to-door collections, ensuring the slide's purchase would be made possible. Mr Tomlinson said he was "very grateful" for their generosity.
