Detectives are appealing for information following a day-time burglary in Debden.

The break-in happened when thieves entered a house on Debden Road, near Debden Water, and stole a handbag containing cash and a mobile phone. This happened at midday on Sunday, March 16.

Investigating officer, Dc Victoria Butler, said: “The owners were home at the time, but were in a different part of the property to where this thief entered. He walked through an unlocked back door and was seen to drive off in a pale-blue high-roofed van.”

The burglar is white and aged in his late 20s or early 30s. A forensic examination of the house has been completed as have house-to-house enquiries.

Dc Butler added: “It really is important for people to close and lock their windows and doors regardless of whether they are inside or outside. We’re looking to speak with those out walking or driving in the Debden area on Sunday lunchtime who saw a pale blue van.”

Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact detectives at Braintree police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
