Essex Police have released current statistics in their campaign against drink and drug driving in the county at Christmas.
As of December 15, a total of 1289 drivers have been breathalysed, and of those tested, 62 were over the limit or refused or failed to provide a sample.
A further 26 drivers were tested using roadside drug wipe kits and six motorists tested positive.
Last year, between December 1 and New Year’s Day, 143 drivers in the county were found to be driving over the legal alcohol limit, or refused or failed to provide a sample, and 32 were arrested for drug driving offences.
