THE Police Interceptors will be one of the many attractions at the Uttlesford Youth Team's fun day being held on Saffron Walden Common on Friday.

A crack team of officers, the Police Interceptors combat crime using state-of-the-art rally cars and have become the stars of a hit channel Five documentary series.

The fun day, which runs from noon to 6pm, will be based around the Essex Police 2Smart road show.

Taking place on a large stage and hosted by Heart FM's Dom Atkins the road show will entertain as well as inform people about the affects of drugs, alcohol, bullying and knives.

Youngsters will be able to test their driving skills and find out what it is like to drive under the influence of alcohol by having a go on a simulator onboard the Community Wheels Trailer.

Issues of sexual health and smoking will be dealt with by members of West Essex NHS who will be on hand with their Chlamydia team to carry out tests. Action 4 Men will give support about gay sex and ways to deal with homophobic hate crime.

Staff from the Lord Butler Leisure Centre will be carrying out fitness assessments and giving advice about how to keep in shape and the Garden of Eden Beauty Salon will be giving tips about how to look your best.

For those with a competitive edge a karaoke competition with a selection of prizes will be held and a five-a-side football competition has been organised. There will be two leagues, one for 13 to 16 year olds and one for 16 to 19 year olds. Trophies and prizes will be presented to the winners.

A crime prevention stand from Essex Police will be giving advice on all aspects of personal safety, particularly concerning mobile phones and ipods, both of which can be registered on the day.

Army representatives from the Carver Barracks will be present with a climbing wall and careers advice. A barbeque will be run by the Saffron Walden Round Table.

Young people from Stansted and Dunmow can use free transport leaving Stansted Youth Centre at 11.30am and Dunmow Youth Centre at 11.45am.
