Detectives are appealing for information following an allegation of rape in Saffron Walden.

Police were contacted shortly before 4am on Saturday, December 21 following reports that a woman in her 20s had been raped at 12.30am in the Duke of York Public House car park off the high street.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Simon Werrett, said: “Although this assault took place in the early hours of Saturday, there were still quite a few people walking around on the high street near its junction with Audley Road. We would encourage these people to contact us as they are likely to be key witnesses who can help us establish what happened.”

Specially-trained officers are attempting to interview the woman in a bid to ascertain further information.

Anyone with information in connection with this rape allegation is urged to contact detectives at Colchester’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team on 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or e-mail the incident room at SOIT@essex.pnn.police.uk
