A man was shot in the leg by police in Dunmow last night (Tuesday).
Armed police were called to Knights Way at about 10pm after receiving reports a man in the area was carrying two firearms.
The man was shot by police and taken to hospital, where he currently remains. Two suspected firearms were recovered at the scene by officers.
A 48-year-old man, from Dunmow, was arrested in relation to firearms offences.
The shooting has been passed on to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which has launched an independent investigation.
