POPPY collectors and generous contributors have been praised for their “wonderful support” in helping to collect a record amount for the appeal this year.
Organised by the Royal British Legion, the Poppy Appeal has so far raised more than 23,000 with cash still rolling in.
Honorary Poppy organiser for the area Bob Curran said: “I express my thanks to all the wonderful and generous people of Saffron Walden, Radwinter, Wimbish, Sewards End and Carver Barracks for their support.
“I also thank all of our loyal band of collectors and helpers, without whom this mammoth task would not be possible.”
He also thanked his wife Marion, Mr Tansley and friends for bringing their military vehicles and the Army Cadets for their support.
