Popular covers band all set for square dance in Saffron Walden
POPULAR covers band, The Wrinklies, are getting ready to have Saffron Walden s Market Square rocking and rolling to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. This year s free Dance in the Square, organised by the Saffron Walden Initiative, will be held from 7.45pm
POPULAR covers band, The Wrinklies, are getting ready to have Saffron Walden's Market Square rocking and rolling to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
This year's free Dance in the Square, organised by the Saffron Walden Initiative, will be held from 7.45pm to 10.30pm on Bank Holiday Saturday (August 29).
Some table and chairs will be provided but people must bring their own food and drink.
Performing together for almost 20 years, The Wrinklies are known for their lively shows featuring music from bands such as the Beatles, Van Morrison and the Rolling Stones.

Guitarist Peter Clayton said: "As a band we've only recently reformed because we all love playing together - we're looking forward to Dance in the Square and hopefully we'll get good weather and good crowds.
"We've got two exceptional saxophonists and one who also plays the flute, so it gives a real richness to our sound. There are two lead vocalists and backing singers and in a few of the numbers we will perform four-part harmonies.

"All of the songs will be well-known and we'll tailor our set so that it's all music that people can dance to."
Over the years The Wrinklies have sold out Saffron Walden Town Hall and have played to packed crowds in venues around the area. Last year they supported Chaz n Dave at the Saffron Walden Carnival.
The line-up of the band will include four of the six original members; Sharon Collins and Andy Start performing vocals, Graham Jackson on drums and Peter Clayden on guitar. New members are Andrew Arnold on guitar and vocals, Mark Jackson on bass and vocals and Clark Doidge on sax and flute.
During the interval there will be a raffle organised by Absolutely Fabulous in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and Jacqui Portway from the market is hoping that local businesses will donate vouchers.
For the first time a film will be made of the dance for YouTube by Lindsey Dillon and colleagues from Blueprint Video Services.
Volunteers will be needed between 6.15pm and 7.15pm to sweep the square and move tables and chairs out from the town hall and then volunteers will be needed again to return the tables and chairs when the event ends.
