Primary school parents share their artistic talents

CHILDREN at Clavering Primary School enjoyed learning from parents who were invited into school to share their artistic talents in a week of art-based activities.
The children painted a mural for the school’s new Friendship Garden, produced a large-scale wall hanging for the school hall, displayed graffiti art throughout the building and made batik prints to decorate the library during the school’s art week, which took place in the last week of term.
They have also benefited from the expertise of plastic sculptor and jewellery designer, Heidi Bentley, who worked with Year 5 children to sculpt natural forms using Perspex and leaves.
Sarah Rudkin, art week organiser, said: “It was a treat to be able to give so much time to art and I was really pleased that so many parents were willing to come in and help. We knew we had some talented artists among our parents and they were so generous in giving their time and their skills.
“We were able to work on projects that would normally be ambitious to manage within the classroom and the children loved it.
“I hope the parents enjoyed it too.”
