HEROES were celebrated at a Wimbish pub last week as staff paid tribute to war veterans during Armistice Day.

For the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War the White Hart pub hosted a 'dine for free day' last week in the hope of raising cash for the Help the Heroes fund.

After amazing support from the public and sponsors the grand total for the day was a terrific £1745. The public ate for free but made very generous donations.

Pub owners Leigh and Phil said: "We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us, it was a good day and we were pleased to welcome so many guests including some veterans who have fought in wars since."

Following such a good response, in what was the first time the pub had run a day of this nature, the owners have vowed to do the same but "bigger and better" next year.

Phil said: "Thank you to the staff who gave up their time for free and to all the customers for the kind donations.
