Pupils celebrate their stars as A level results are announced in and around Saffron Walden and Cambridge

At Saffron Walden County High 12 pupils, a record number for the school, will be studying for degrees at Oxford and Cambridge next year.

Among them is Nina Haket, who has achieved five A* grades at A Level.

Nina, from Great Dunmow has a place at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Among her school fellow at Cambridge will be Liam Goddard and Daniel Lee who both have places to read maths.

The County High’s other outstanding achievers include Harvey George and Adam Langworthy who both achieved 4A*s. Megan Hobson, Leon Bozianu and Bill Stanley all achieved three A*s and two As. 10 students achieved 3A*s or higher, including Daniel Lee, Ben Willstead, Chris Shaw and Emily Pyle who all achieved 3A*s and an A. e Nathalie Wilson, who achieved 2A*s and 2 As has also won the new Rachael Wilson award for English Literature. Josh Sturgeon, who achieved A*AA will study medicine at Leicester. Marley Wright is the first BTEC Business student to be offered a place at Durham.

At the Joyce Frankland Academy, in Newport, Emily Rendell gained four A* in physics, maths, further maths and chemistry. She has a place to study aeronautical engineering at Southampton University.

Jack Spittlehouse who achieved a double distinction* in his business BTEC course and a B in government and politics goes on to a scholarship at the Pearson Business School in London. This is a degree course with a two-day a week internship at at FTSE 100 company. Jack was one of 50,000 students to apply for a BBC scholarship, offered to just six people. He just missed being one of the six but having been interviewed at the Pearson Business School, they offered him a place there anyway with a bursary.

Morgan Burroughs, who took A levels in music and biology, will study music composition at Trinity Laban in London.

At The Perse School in Cambridge, 87 per cent of students got an A* or A grade, the highest percentage ever recorded at the school and among the best results nationally.

Over half of all Perse A-level results were A* (54 per cent). The sSchool’s A* to C pass rate was 99 per cent.

Student, Thomas Read received A* grades in A level mathematics and further mathematics and A* equivalents in Pre U chemistry and physics. He has a place to study maths at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Pratap Singh, gained A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics and economics and A* equivalents in Pre U chemistry and physics. He is going to to Harvard University in the United States.
