GREEN-THINKING pupils of Clavering Primary School gathered for a tree planting event in the village.

Representatives of the schools Eco Club took part in the initiative, which was arranged and organised by Tim Gingell and Andrew Tomlinson of The Jubilee Field, where the planting was held.

The trees were provided by The Rural Community Council of Essex and Simon Cooke of Deers, Clavering.

Cllr Ron Couchman represented Clavering Parish Council and helped the children dig holes and plant the five trees. They were named after each of the school houses: Saville-Walnut; Whymark-Cherry; Oliver-Ash; Ludgate-Acacia; and Wales-Walnut.

One of the children involved in the project, Olivia Tomlinson, said: "I think it is a brilliant way to get children to work together and it's educational and beneficial to our community.

"We all had great fun and look forward to watching the trees grow up like us.
